Ethnic theater in the United States has always focused on the social and political problems of one or all minorities. The playwrights wanted people to see and understand what a certain minority is might have been going through at that current point in time or even what they had to endure in their past. They want to make people aware of problems within society both current and past. They also wanted people to understand the hardship of adjusting to an American society. These hardships could be anything from economically to possible language barriers. They want to emphasize the struggle they must face when mashing both their ethnic background and their american background. This struggle of balancing the two are often seen within ethnic theater. Ethnic theater in the United States will always have a place and will continue to point out the struggles that minorities have endured in both the recent years as well as further in the past.
